Your Opinion on Janine

Which areas does Janine Tugunon need to improve the most at, so she can nab a top 5 finish at the Miss Universe pageant this year?

I say there are 5 major components of a modern queen, which are basically prerequisites for a good placement at any pageant.
  1. Body
  2.  Presentation
  3. Personality
  4. Wit
  5. Packaging

Body
We conquered 2010 with Venus’ 22 inch waistline, and 2011 with Shamcey’s super toned  + healthy looking body. Does Janine have either or both? Can she still catch up with the Bodines and the Irene’s who have fabulous bodies?

Presentation
Shamcey’s tsunami, Dayana Mendoza’s twirls, Riyo’s wings, Miriam’s elegance, J. Hawking’s stomp – evidence that a good catwalk would bring you miles ahead of the competition. Does Janine’s pseudo-tsunami walk good enough? Do you think she has what it takes to glide her way to the crown?
Does Janine have Ximena’s easy-breezy poses (giggles in-tow)? Can she charm her way to Leila’s throne?

Personality
We all know that the organizers have a say as to who gets in the top 15 or 20. The so-called trump cards depend on politics. Not being replaced by the trump cards depends on a girl’s relationship with the organizers. Rumors swirled around the exclusion of Vivian Ortiz. The short lived run of Vanessa Goncsalvez too was rumored due to her bitchy personality.
Does Janine have an easy-to-get-along-with personality that won’t antagonize the other girls and the organizers? Does she project a positive persona on pictures and videos? Can Janine do a “Jesinta” and land on the top 5 with a congeniality award under her arms?

Wit
The preliminary interview is so important. Apparently, that was where most of our queens who didn’t penetrate the semis failed at.
Wit isn’t about being Magna Cum Laude, because that obviously didn’t help Licaros. Wit is about being sharp. It entails knowing HOW to answer rather than WHAT to answer. Take Venus and Shamcey’s interviews. They weren’t as smart as the other girls, but they were confident and straight. Their answers were unforgettable.
Does Janine have wit that can help her penetrate the semis and give her an edge at the last round?

Packaging
Hair, make-up, aura.
Does Janine need to change up from Pinay Sweetie to Diva, or add some fierceness to her arsenal?
Sho0uld her hair go straight or curly with bounce?

If you think Janine is safe in all of the facets, then go ahead and let your voice be heard over at the comment section.

If you think there is one or more areas she needs to work on, then tell me. I will take all opinions and make a composite review of Janine after. Also, check out my get-go analysis of Janine here.

Under the Microscope: Janine Tugunon

Before anything else:
With the close of Binibining Pilipinas 2012, the crabs have emerged from their hibernation. Their latest victim? BBP Universe, Janine Tugunon.
A lot of controversies, a whole lot of rumors are swirling around the pageant world, all implying that the mentioned beauty did not deserve her crown. Well, the whole affair - pageant and all - is water under the bridge as far as we fans are concerned. Why? Because no amount of bashing, defamation, can ever change the fact that she is our queen.
The very least we can do is to keep our pie-holes shut if we find it so hard to support her. Not only are we gonna validate our alleged "crab mentality" but also, we will harm whatever chances this lady has to conquer the international stage.

Ok. Moving on.

The Analysis:

Let us contextualize. Miss Universe as shown in the recent years, in particular, this decade, have favored women with striking features. Gone are the days of the virginal queens the barbie dolls. This is the era of FIERCE.

Let's go over the top fives of 2009, 2010 and 2011:

Puerto Rico
Australia
Kosovo
Dominican Rep.
Winner: Venezuela

Philippines
Ukraine
Australia
Jamaica
Winner: Mexico

China
Philippines
Brazil
Ukraine
Winner: Angola

In 2009, we have two women of darker skin color, Misses PR and DR. 2009 also had Marigona Dragusha of Kosovo with her high fashion catwalk and runway ready face and poses.

In 2010, we have again, two women of darker color, Misses Phil and Jamaica. Australia had a very non-typical face, while Mexico had very chiseled features - very glamorous.

In 2011, we had two Asians, and a black woman as the winner. Brazil was known to be a freckled woman. And although the night she was spunky. Ukraine was repackaged to be more seductive. and Angola, was so exotic and charming.

Among all the 15 finalists of the past three years, only 2010 Ukraine, and 2009 Australia, were typical beauty pageant looking women.

With all that said. Does Janine fit the bill?

Let's describe the lady, shall we?

FACE:

features - quite symmetrical and that is a major prerequisite for a semi-finalist placement
mouth - perfect smile. clean and not at all horse-like (*cough2x, miss indias... lol)
eyes and brows - very striking, draws anyone. fierce. reminds me of Olesya's eyes.
face shape - NON-MONAY!!! her face shape is very oriental yet, spicy at the same time.

BODY:

height - good enough. it's actually the typical height of finalists. not everyone can be as tall as Amelia Vega.
skin tone - even. sexy... very golden.
shape - shapely enough. needs toning down (not impossible to do); proportionate

WALK:

-good enough

BRAINS:

-very sharp... although deliver might be a problem. content-wise, she has got it in the bag

PERSONALITY:

-according to reports, she is very charming and quite friendly. also, she is obviously a fighter. we need someone who actually wants to win.

======

Okay. that over with, the question which remains is if she is has any chances of placing.

YES

She is a shoo-in for a semi-finalist placement. But it may all end just there. She needs to work on her body and her walk if she wants to get into the top 5.

Finally, she needs to feel support from everyone she is fighting for.

But, regardless, she has mine.

JANINE TUGUNON for the Crown!

Youtube Vlogger Review: Lepreas

For the few who actually read my blognews/updates, you'd know this is a long overdue post. The Youtube Vlogger Reviews is my attempt to share to you guys, the personalities i love on Youtube, and in that respect, also show you who I am as a person.

For my first ever YTV Review, I have the quirky brit "Lepreas". I know he isn't as famous as Michael Buckley, or Kurt Hugo Schneider, or even Tyler Oakley, but he is extremely entertaining.

WHY I LOVE HIM:

1. He has this very obvious British accent that I just love. I have a bias for British boys - my best friend is a fil-brit, "Gus", and I have several friends who are brits too. I find the accent sexy. That is all.

2. He has a lisp. And i find gay boys with lisps cute. (Don't psychoanalyze that part. I know it sounds wrong. lol)

3. He loves literature as much as i do. Actually, he identifies himself as an author of some sort, though he hasn't fulfilled his promise of posting his works yet. lol.

4. He plays the guitar.

5. He is really cute. I mean, really cute. (But no, he is not my type.)

WHY I LOVE HIS VIDEOS:

1. It's obvious that he puts a lot of effort in his vlogs, especially his contributions to "AGAYADAY" channel. Although he rambles, you can still see that underlying structure.

2. He takes criticism well.

3. He listens to his audience in terms of topics, but he doesn't pander to them.

4. He is honest - very real.

5. He doesn't try too hard.

STUFF I DON'T LIKE ABOUT HIM AND HIS VIDEOS:

1. Too few videos. As of writing he has undr 50 videos. I hope he kicks it up a nocth, the vlogging thing, i mean. He is too talented and funny to just have 50 videos.

2. He's only 19. Which means, he can sometimes be a little (alot) immature. Which is fun for me, but to some of my friends, they think he's annoying.

That's all.

You see, i really really like him. And i've watched his videos, over and over agian.

lol

Anyways.

MY FAVORITE LEPREAS VIDEOS

I give this blogger 8 out of 10 stars

Hey, do me a favor, if you enjoyed reading this and you choose to check Lepreas' channel out, please tell him i sent you :) Or send him this link or something... :)

Inkmeister: Monologue on a Boy

I wish I hadn’t met him. I wouldn’t have ended up a spoiled selfish romantic. I wouldn’t have expected so much from boy number two or three or four or five. If I hadn’t met him, I would have been like every other gay boy. I’d find a guy who liked me; he’d buy me dinner one night, and the next would be my treat. I’d be texting him as much as he texted me. I’d care to send flowers on special days. I would have been a better boyfriend to all who followed, if I hadn’t met him.
It’s his fault. He loved me too much. He gave me every single thing I needed. I didn’t have to work on our relationship, because he always had it covered. I could bitch and nag all day and still his lap would still be there for me to fall asleep on.
It’s completely his fault that every relationship I had after him would just collapse. I never learned to care. I never learned to be hurt. I never learned how to handle rejection. I never really learned the art of give and take. I was led to believe I was so fucking special, that when he left, I expected the whole world to treat me the same way.
Why did he have to leave?
He knew I was nothing without him. He knew I couldn’t stand a single minute without hearing his voice or reading a text from him. He knew I couldn’t sleep without the sound of his breath. He knew I needed him.
But he’s gone. He’s never coming back. Not for me. Not for anyone.
The last few days were sweet. He was laying there on that hospital bed. The white light wasn’t doing his pasty complexion any favors. He had all his hair shaved off for an operation. He was fucked up. Even though that was the case, he was till the guy who asked the nurse or the maid to fetch me a cup of tea. He’d still rub my hand so I’d fall asleep. He still left me notes to cheer me up.
He was dying in a dreary old hospital, and he was still being my boyfriend. Not once was I ever his. Not even then. He didn’t let me.
I wasn’t there when it happened. I had to go home and get fresh clothes. His mother was there. She told me it happened so fast.  She told me that right before Eric’s attack, he was calling my name. Mark. Mark. Mark. He wanted me to be there. But I just wasn’t. Eric’s mom said he took her hand and told her he loved her. She said he asked her to tell everyone he has ever loved that he’s sorry for leaving. She said the last word he uttered was my name. Mark.
Fuck.
He needed me, and I wasn’t there.
Tonight is three years from his passing.
And I Don’t know what to do.

- based on a true story from a friend now based in Tennessee. Thanks for trusting me with your story.

Wanderlust Chronicles: Cebu for the Summer?

Vacationers look for different things in a destination. The classic tourists want somewhere where they can just chill and read a good book. There are others, mostly the younger ones, who prefer a booming nightlife over a quiet evening in the hotel. There are also quite a few who get kicks out of just wandering around a place, and they, as you may well guess, prefer places of high cultural or historical value. This is exactly why Cebu City has become such a hub for both international and local patrons of the "vacay". And if you haven't even considered spending your sizzling summer days in this metropolis, well here is some convincing.

Historians the world over have called this smidge of civilization as the Queen City of the South. Quite aptly so, if you consider how the city was the first of its kind established in the archipelago. Also, the native tongue “Cebuano” has such a presence in the country that it is spoken by over 60% of the population – impressive, considering how it isn’t even the language of the capital.
Letters from Spanish bishops and priest dated in the fifteen to sixteen hundreds describe how they felt that the Cebuano people were the most beautiful of all the Filipinos.
Making this city not only of historical and political significance but also a city of good looking lads and gals.

Also, the architecture of the place is a clash between the dominant Spanish "casa de hacienda" and the Chinese "sihuyan". There are pagoda roofs on cobblestone walls, bamboo thatching atop brick enclosures. Truly, the cultural connotations of having the east meeting the west in Cebu City, has produced these unique variations  of styles and art. The churches which dot even the metro have such a baroque identity to them that when you enter their hallowed walls, you will find how the use of Chinese style tapestries and fixtures
is a bit off, but still aesthetically pleasing.

More than just the sights, Cebu is famous for it's life - its nightlife to be specific. There are several parks that are hectares big, just filled to the brim with all sorts of clubs and bars. The presence of security personnel at every corner also puts the partier at ease. Mango Park and IT Park being the most popular are alive every night of the week. The average joe and the socialite can find their place in this sea of beat thumping people.

If the thumpa-thumpa of boom bxes really isn't your thing, then not far from the city are beach side cul-de-sacs which offer solace from the buzzing world outside.  Talisay, Lapu-lapu, San Fernando are just stone throws away from the centro but are still magical paradises. Further south there is also Oslob which is famous for whale shark watching, and up north are the Camotes islands which are said to have finer sand than the more famous Boracay.
Just hop on a bus to the southern tip of Cebu Island, and you'll be passing by white sand beaches, majestic mountains and fields and crystal blue waters.

Cebu, isn’t just a city, it’s a paradise for everyone. It has all the luxuries for the backpacking sight-seer, the hard partying clubber and the sunbathing, peace loving, vacationer.

Inksanity: Ancient Secrets

Ancient Secrets

The trials of my life stretch from the east
From where the lowly rest from the beast
As cherry blossoms fade into the streets
I dance to every lonely man's heartbeat

I cruise into yours eyes, so dark
Kiss your chest and leave a mark
Then I frolic thru the field, the moon, waning
Like autumn leaves, I come cascading

To the embrace of o'l man's whip
My sickening vice, my midnight trip
I try to pull out, constant defeat
Mocked by the reveler, I stand in the heat

Obscurity, my best friend, come to me
Take my hand and lead me to serenity
As cherry blossoms fade into the streets
I dance to every lonely man's heartbeat

What’s wrong with MJ Lastimosa?

What’s wrong with MJ Lastimosa?

A huge uproar in the pageant circuit is due in part to the non-inclusion of Ms. MJ Lastimosa of Davao, in the top 5 of the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas. This uproar is also due to Janine Tugunon’s win, but that’s for another post. Here, I’d like to talk about MJ, and try to answer why, for two years, has she never snatched a crown despite her 22 inch waistline, killer ramp skills and her queenly appeal.
Let’s consider 2011 first.
Tugunon surprised us all and pulled off a 1st RU finish, and Lastimosa was 2nd RU. We all know Supsup got Universe, Necio, International, and Manjon, Tourism.
But if you look at them, sure Supsup was shining that night, but she hadn’t perfected her body and her walk then. Manjon was towering, but she lacked fierceness. Necio had the charm and the finesse but was considerably short.  Lastimosa already had the body, the walk, the diva attitude and had a passable height. But still she didn’t conquer. The community was hyping her, and the crowds did cheer, but to no avail, apparently.

Where did she falter?Many consider her Q&A her downfall… I don’t. Let’s dissect:(Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzsD_v7T8CE)

Question: Can you please name at least three things that make you smile and why?

Answer: The three things that made me smile is one, the love of my family. They're been always there to support me in everything that I do. Second, the love of the people who I don't even know, that are here supporting and cheering for me. Even my family is not here, they are here, they are making me strong. Number three, is the love of this candidates.

I don’t see any problems here. Do you?
The deliver wasn’t stellar like Supsup’s or Tugunon’s, but it wasn’t BAD.
So why did pageant nobody Tugunon placed higher? Or why did tiny Necio get a crown, over her?

WHY:Bb Pilipinas isn’t a pageant that gives away crowns to the best performer of the night. NO. If you think that, then you are quite deluded. This pageant only uses those points in weeding out the weak from the bunch.
The truth is, after the semis, the judges begin to choose which candidate is best for the crowns. And they choose two runners up who are good enough to be a replacement in any of the pageants.

That’s why Supsup got to universe with her Brazilian looks and fierce pictures. That’s why Necio went to International with her cutesy charm and bubble personality. And that’s why Manjon battled it out in tourism with her oriental-western appeal. They were chosen specifically for the crown they wore. Lastimosa wasn’t unique enough for Tourism, wasn’t charming enough for international, and wasn’t stand-outish enough for Universe. Tugunon, had all that in the making, thus her placement over MJ.

For 2012:
Tugunon won the night with her Filipina face, fierce poses and sharp wit – the makings of a Ms. Universe candidate. Schimdt was charming from head to toe, and had a very diplomatic answer – surely do well in International. Dimaranan has the height and the exotic features which would sell well in Tourism.
The RU, Moll and Forbes, were stunning and had potential to go to any pageants.

Again MJ, still didn’t change. She still stood in the very middle of mediocrity. Mediocre ramp, mediocre answer, mediocre photos. She should have styled herself according to a crown. And not just a winning candidate.

All pageants are like this. She should have done her research.  She should have just piqued at a certain facet and just looked for a niche that made winning a crown possible.
She won BEST CANDIDATE for me… sadly, there’s no BEST CANDIDATE INTERNATIONAL. lol

Gearing Up for Ms. Philippines Earth 2012: An Analysis

To understand Miss Earth Philippines, you have to understand the force behind it – Carousel Productions.

The thing is, this team isn’t like other pageant organizers. If you look at the past winners of both Miss Earth Philippines and Miss Earth, you’d notice that most of the work the winners have is actually after the pageant itself. Basically, the point is, Carousel Prod., actually sticks to its advocacies and does use its queens as much as they could to forward their vision. Take Miss Earth 2011, Olga of Ecuador. She’s considered the “Busiest Queen” of 2011. So were Larissa and Nicole before her.

This adherence to their advocacy has a multitude of implications to the pageant itself. And so many goddesses were dropped because of this.
Criteria (based on past competitions and winners)
1.       Smart/Witty – compare Ms. Tanzania 2008 to eventual winner, Karla Henry. Consider also, Jennifer Pazmino to Nicole Faria of 2010. There is also the inclusion of Bokang Montjane in 2007. And Athena Imperial’s triumph in the national pageant in 2011. Since of course, they need a functional ambassador, they’d really need someone who has something between their ears. Other examples: Jessika Trisko, Dania Mendez and Winfred Omakwe

2.       Sweet and Pleasant – This is a major result of how Carousel works. Of course they’d want a queen who is easier to deal with, than a crazy primadonna.  This is considered to be why a lot of Goddesses lose out in the completion. The organizers always weed out the bitches. Take Sarka, Ms Czech Rep. 2011, the heavy favorite for the crown. And the inclusion of the plain Ms. Taiwan. The thing with this is it’s not about being nice to get in, but about not being a bitch so you can stay in. Other Examples: Alexandra Braun, Pricilla Mereiles, Karla Henry, Nicole Faria, Olga Alava.

3.       Presentation over Body – Take how Sandra Seifert won most major awards even though Misses Brazil and Venezuela were superior physically. It’s not about the machine, it’s how it’s driven. Jessica Trisko wasn’t even beautiful, but her ramp was. Hill Hernandez of Chile was only “okay” compared to the Ms. India that time. But the way they presented themselves won over their lack in the body department.
These considered, you go on look and read about the MPE candidates for 2012 and see if any fit the
bill.

My Front-runner so far is Ms. Negros Oriental – Glenna Duch.

Who’s yours?

Zac Efron + Penshoppe?

Yes. You read it right. Zac Efron and Penshoppe has come to a partnership that will definitely sweep the Asian fashion world.

According to this yahoo article, Zac has never endorsed anything in his career. So this ALL PINOY brand, will be a first. Awesome!

So how excited are we? VERY!

He will definitely rekindle the Philippine fashion scene and put us back on top amongst our asian cousins. With his sure blockbuster hit the Lucky One, ZAc will definitely propell the brand to greater heights.

So what about Penshoppe?

I personally don't wear a lot of Penshoppe. But i've always used Penshoppe bags, accessories and even cosmetics (i.e. their CLAY DOH is awesomenesss!!)

So keep tuned for more updates. :)

PS

More picutres!!!!
